Diabetes and Breastfeeding

Question

A woman would like to breastfeed her husband, however he has Diabetes. Would he be able to or will there be too much sugar in the breastmilk where he would be unable to suckle from her?

Answer:

Breastmilk has lactose, the sugar that the body makes. With diabetes sucrose is the worst sugar, glucose and fructose are also probably worse than lactose but not as bad as sucrose which aggravates diabetes. Remember however, we need carbohydrates in our diet to some degree for good health.

My feeling is that I doubt that the breast feeding would have any negative impact on his diabetes. Certainly if she produces a significant amount of milk and if he is getting a significant amount of calories from it then he should monitor his blood sugars to see if there is any effect. I really doubt there will be.

If she is significantly healthier than he is, such as being much younger, etc. It is possible sharing her system and vitality with him in this way could actually boost his health... my opinion. Milk is "white blood". Many living properties present are transferred to the recipient.
